Some considered him the Robin Hood of Missouri while others deemed him a vile criminal. Regardless of whether he was one or the other or something in between, Jesse James was a public and historic figure during the unrest following the Civil War.
Jesse James, along with his brother Frank and their gang, conducted the first of many peacetime daylight bank robberies. Later, the James gang expanded to train and stagecoach robberies.
Jesse James’ flamboyant life has been immortalized in both books and movies, and now history buffs can own a piece of that history straight from Jesse James’ own Smith & Wesson Schofield revolver through select Friends of NRA banquets.
“This is a unique opportunity to own a bullet and case shot from a handgun that is documented as being owned by Jesse James,” said Phil Gray, NRA central regional director. “While he was definitely an outlaw, Jesse James was also a historic figure throughout the late 1800s. This opportunity will probably never be offered again.”
The bullet and case arrive framed with a photo of Jesse, called Pinkerton’s Thorn by many, along with two official NRA coins and a signed certification by NRA National Firearms Museum Director Jim Supica.
